Central Alabama Soaring Association (CASA) is located in central Alabama. Our base of operations and hanger where we store our inventory of aircrafts is located at Lee Merkel Field (SCD) in Sylacauga, Alabama about 40 miles southeast of Birmingham, Alabama. The members of CASA have a long soaring history in the Birmingham area. Our club, and it’s 29 members, was formed as a result of the merger of the Birmingham Soaring Society and the Sylacauga Soaring Society. Both of these clubs have a history of soaring dating back to 1969.
