OPPORTUNITIES

With its recent expansions, Sylacauga Airport offers great opportunities which are very attractive for aviation oriented businesses that need to locate at an airport. Contact the Sylacauga Airport Authority through the FBO for further information.
Sylacauga Municipal Airport (FAA LID: SCD), also known as Lee Merkel Field, is a city-owned public-use airport located west of the central business district of Sylacauga, a city in Talladega County, Alabama, United States.

The Sylacauga Airport is the closest air transportation connection to Southeast Birmingham and North Shelby County allowing business to be efficiently conducted. With a 5,400 foot runway with GPS approaches to LPV minimums, an on time arrival and departure can almost be guaranteed.

Within the service area of the airport, hunting, fishing, racing and golfing can be found in the finest of forms. Because of access to three of the best lakes within a forty-five minute drive in either direction, all types of water sports may be enjoyed. There are two championship style golf courses nearby with Shoal Creek and Farm Links complimented by the Trent Jones Golf Trail. Hunting lodges can be found nestled around the Talladega National Forest. There is always something happening at the Alabama International Speedway. Visit the Museum, attend a race or just tour the pit area. Mt. Cheaha, the tallest peak in Alabama, is located in the middle of the National Forest and has accommodations and activities for everyone.

Lee Merkel Field has something for everyone: from an experience in a glider to your glider rating; from a dream of flying to a Commercial Pilot Certificate; from a basket of old parts in a barn, to a bright shiny better than new restored antique airplane; from a young person's dream of flight to memories of a lifetime. It is all found at this Airport. Come by, spend some time and look us over. You will certainly find something that will bring you back again.
